The COLTRIMS (COLd Target Recoil Ion Momentum Spectrometer)

After collision, the recoil ions are extracted by a uniform electric field (20 V/cm, uniform over the 93.7 mm flight tube) and directed onto a large-diameter (80 mm) position sensitive detector (PSD). The scattered projectiles are then deflected and detected on another PSD located dowwnstream of the HCI beamline. The momenta of the correlated fragments from the targets are measured in coincidence using the COLTRIMS in 3D focusing mode for high momentum resolution measurement. From the ventt-by-event positional and temporal data (x, y, t) recorded in a list mode, one can extract information about the momentum vector (px, py, pz) in the laboratory frame by an off-line analysis.
