publié le , mis à jour le

CIMAP, created in 2008, is a multidisciplinary research laboratory whose scientific objectives relate to excited matter and defects creation on the one hand and to the materials and optics on the other hand.

CIMAP is a Joint Research Unit : CNRS(UMR6252), CEA [1], CNRS [2], ENSICAEN [3] and University of Caen [4].

  • Ion-matter interaction, relaxation of the excited matter,
  • Defects in materials,
  • Materials for lasers, photonics and electronics.

The theoretical basis and applications of this research are part of the axes developed in this new laboratory.

Interdisciplinary Research using ions beams of the Heavy Ion Accelerator (GANIL)

This activity is managed as part of the platform CIRIL which promotes the GANIL activity attracting new users and international scientists conducting experiments and by developing suitable equipment. The teams involved in this task are AMA and MADIR that ensure the success of this activity by devoting a significant part of their time.

Teaching activity

at the University of Caen and ENSICAEN which remains a primary mission.

Scientific Activities

The research activity is organized into seven research teams :

  1. AMA Team "Atoms, Molecules and Aggregates"
    Scientific scope : describing the relaxation of dilute matter submitted to electron excitation. Studies focus on the elementary collision processes : stability of multi-ionized molecules and aggregates, dissociation, charge transfer as well as the fragmentation of biomolecules and their aggregates.
  1. MADIR Team "MAterials, Defects and IRradiation" ;
    Scientific scope : defects in materials particularly in semiconductors. The electronic and optical properties, structural changes induced by irradiation and applications to nuclear materials, nanostructuring in radiobiology ... Processes for moving the atoms by electron excitation to the origin of the spray and the creation of defects that are studied using materials or model objects (surfaces, interfaces and aggregates / matrix molecules.
  1. LIOA Team "Optical Instrumentation Lasers and Applications" ;
    Scientific scope : study of the spatial and temporal properties of optical resonators, lasers and the development of optical measures implementing a laser playing the dual role of coherent light source and detector.
  2. MIL Team "Materials and Instrumentation Laser" ;
    Scientific scope : development and study of new materials for lasers, crystallogenesis, characterization of excited states, achieving laser protoype.

Both teams merged into a single one : OML for Optics, Materials and Lasers.

  1. NIMPH Team "Nanostructures for integrated microelectronics and photonics" ;
    Scientific scope : fabrication and characterization of nanostructures compatible with silicon technology as layers and multilayer having innovative features in the field of microelectronics, photonics and photovoltaics.
  1. SIMUL Team "Simulation" ;
    Scientific scope : developping close relationships with the research themes of the experimental groups. The main goal is the identification of material structural properties. Then it concerns the study the influence of the structure on the physical properties on the one hand, and we identify the relaxation process of a material subjected to electron excitation on the other hand.
  1. PM2E Team "Properties of Materials for Energy Savings" ;
    Scientific scope : The studies focus on the type of semiconductor materials ’and III-nitrides Sb’ one of whose objectives is the development of LED lamps, and composites reinforced linen or nano-reinforcements.
