The activities of the NIMPH team are centered on the growths and studies of thin films of semiconductor or dielectric containing dielectric, semiconductor or metallic nanostructures and/or dopants such as rare earth ions. The team’s work aims at developing thin films and heterostructures with optimized functional properties (light emission, emissivity, particular dielectric or electrical properties...).
Fundamental studies are carried out by means of an adapted or developed modeling tool (Monte Carlo, TMM, ADE-FDTD,...) for describing the mechanisms such as energy transfer, optical pumping or reflectance which aims at improving the understanding of these functional properties.
The expertise of the NIMPH team in the growth and study of innovative thin films produced by radiofrequency magnetron sputtering has been recognized nationally and internationally for more than 20 years. The team has extended its domain of expertise by developing ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition) approach for the growth of high structural quality materials with an atomic scale control of the growth and deposition with high aspect ratio. The materials developed within the NIMPH team are considered for integrating advanced devices such as LED, solar cells, amplifier waveguides or sensors.
